 Indication  

  • Benzodiazepine.
  • Sedative-hypnotic, antianxiety, anticonvulsant, antipanic.
 Fetal Risk  

  • Fetotoxic in animals causing fetal resorption and increased fetal loss.
  • Crosses human placenta. No well-controlled human data but benzodiazepines are associated with increased risk of congenital anomalies if used in 1st trimester. Chronic use of benzodiazepines throughout pregnancy is associated with neonatal withdrawal and if used in last weeks of pregnancy they can cause neonatal CNS depression.
 Breast Feeding  

  • Excreted into milk and potential to cause sedation, feeding difficulties and weight loss in nursing infants.
